Disney On Ice 100 Years Of Magic | Birmingham Arena

“It All Started With A Mouse” – Walt Disney

Every now and then an exciting email will drop into your box that literally makes you want to burst. Ive been lucky enough since starting my blogging hobby to have had so many opportunities and we as a family have been so grateful for them all. But this one I have to admit has so far topped them all. We like so many families across the world are MEGA Disney fans. We love everything Disney. Me and mark grew up watching Disney and I love that my children are now loving the same movies as us plus all the new ones that we can watch together.  We were invited to come along to the Birmingham Show as the starting point of the tour that is about to travel the country. Not only to watch the show but meet Mickey and Minnie too!! The kids dressed to impress in their bestest Disney costumes and off we went!

So on the night of the show we set off to Birmingham from our home town in coventry just a short train ride away. However we did have have an issue with a taxi which was a shame because it made us have to rush to get there on time. We had accidentally got into what is known as a Pirate taxi so if you do use taxi’s often I would defiantly make sure your in a registered cab, as this one took us 30 minutes the wrong way from the venue. But regardless we made it just on time!

We arrived at the stadium and were greeted by the reception at our entrance point. Something I was pleased about and put at ease with was that to enter the building you have to walk through a metal detector and have a bag search which I was pleased about as I am a terrorist attack victim , im always cautious in these settings. After getting our tickets we were guided to a lift that we had to take to get to the meet and greet. Once inside the kids about died of excitement at seeing who was waiting for them in the private room.

IMG_9578I wasn’t actually sure how either of them would react to the characters and I was praying Derry wouldn’t freak out scared hah! The family who went before us there little girl had got scared by them and I thought that might set Derry off but it didnt. She rushed straight over and asked Mickey for hug which really surprised me. I don’t know why but my eyes welled up. I spent so many years at Disney during my childhood and seeing them with Mickey and Minnie just got me all emotional! The meet and greet isn’t available everywhere so I would defiantly check with your location for Hospitality packages. In the private room food was also provided buffet, hot and cold drinks aswell as the kids were given an activity bag with a piece of merchandise in too!

It was definitely an amazing extra moment that we were so grateful for.

It was then time to head around to our seats. There are plenty of staff to guide you to your seats and it was no trouble at all. We got very lucky with our seats as we were right infront of the rink with brilliant views, also the 4 seats directly in front of us actually ended up empty so we literally had the perfect seats. The Show had put on a sort of pre show build up entertainment with 2 skaters throwing boomerang type items into the air above the crowds getting everyone excited and ready for the main show to start. Within 5-10 minutes the show began!!

The Kids faces lit up as you can see! The show consisted of different short stories being told filled of action and sing alongs song from our favourite shows such as Frozen, Toy story and more. The stories are short sections from the films and it brings the character alive in front of you. Not only are the characters skating in front of you but you as the audience are encouraged to sing along dance and become apart of the magic.

At one point of the show a boat was brought out onto the ice mid song and pre arranged children were picked to get into the boat and ride around the ice with the characters. At another point during the frozen section it actually snowed!! Snow began to fall from larger machines in the roofing and it was so magical, my children could not believe this part and it really did add to the magic.

The whole show was absolutely amazing and I would 1000% recommend visiting the tour. My children being 3 & 5 years old were the perfect ages and loved every second but myself and mark were also very into the show so its perfect for all ages! Half way through the show there is a short 15 minute break just enough time to pop to the toilet or get refreshments. Now all that being say I do have one small negative and that is the pricing of merchandise. As with any concerts or shows like this there are stalls inside the venue selling merchandise like teddies, toys and flashing lights. My children both wanted lights and they chose one each costing a whopping £35. During the break vendors walk through the crowds with things like popcorn, ice cones and candy floss. Both my children wanted a snow cone which is served in a solid characterised plastic cup and characterised spoon (merchandise) and ice with flavouring on. These were £10 which does sound alot but you get a piece of merchandise to keep also. That is my only negative side BUT there are vendors outside the arena selling cheaper versions if you wanted to save some money but these items never last where as the Disney ones are guaranteed for 3 years.

Here are some of the 900 pictures I took haha!

I highly recommend visiting the show check here for touring locations. If you know a Disney fan then I know this is something they wouldn’t forget, its the closest thing to visiting Disneyland you’ll get! And you will definitely have a Magical time!! IMG_9719
